EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) are more than admin—they’re a legal safeguard ensuring young people with SEND get the tailored support they need. Weakening them sends the wrong message: that some learners matter less. This recent letter in The Guardian highlights just how vital these protections are: The right to an education, health and care plan must be retained | Special educational needs | The Guardian
The right to an EHCP must be retained. At South West Learning, we believe targeted support should come from those who truly understand education. Our founders are qualified teachers with years of classroom experience, meaning we hold our work to the same high standards found in schools. We’ve seen first-hand how expert, personalised teaching can unlock progress for learners who’ve been overlooked.
Rather than stripping back essential protections, funding should be directed toward services that are equipped to meet learners’ needs—with professionalism, consistency, and care. That's what we're here for.
Accessible, high-quality education isn’t a bonus - it’s a right. Let’s make sure we’re backing it properly.
